Sensorial materials
Materials that isolate one quality — size, color, weight, sound, texture — so a child can refine their perception of it.
In plain English
What it actually means
The pink tower varies only in size; the color tablets only in hue; the sound cylinders only in the noise they make. By isolating one variable at a time, the material lets a child classify the world with their hands before they have the words for it. Much of the later mathematics and geometry rests on distinctions first made here.
