Montessori glossary · The curriculum
Going out
Elementary children planning and taking their own trips into the community as part of their research.
In plain English
What it actually means
Rather than the whole class boarding a coach, small groups identify something they need — a library, a museum, an expert — and organize the visit themselves, with adult support. The logistics are the lesson as much as the destination.
Why it matters to you
On a tour
Ask about it when you tour an elementary program; it is a good indicator of how seriously the school takes the model.
